HR expertise that comes from actually doing the work
OnPoint Consulting NZ exists because too many businesses struggle with HR alone. They make avoidable mistakes, stay awake worrying about employment issues, and treat HR as a compliance burden rather than something that helps their business succeed.
It doesn’t have to be that way
Meet Priya Dwivedi
I started OnPoint Consulting NZ because I saw the same problems over and over: businesses making preventable mistakes, employees being treated poorly (sometimes through ignorance, not malice), and HR being something people dreaded, rather than understood.
“I believe in building HR literacy.”
I’ve spent just over 20 years in HR department, managing people, employment relations, talent management, training and development, and business process improvement. The last 17 of those have been here in New Zealand, working with organisations in healthcare, FMCG, education, and more. I’ve built HR functions from scratch, led system implementations, managed restructures, handled investigations, and sat across the table in more mediations than I can count.
“You’re paying for my expertise and honesty, not my agreement.”
What makes me slightly unusual is my background. I started in IT, not HR. I have an engineering degree and project management certifications alongside my MBA in Strategic HR Management. That means I think about HR differently: I care about systems, data, and processes, as much as I care about people and culture. I believe HR should be measurable, not just ‘soft.’
I’m based in Auckland, but I work with clients across New Zealand. Most of my work is virtual, which means geography isn’t a barrier to getting help when you need it.
My Background
I hold a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (IT) and an MBA in Strategic HR Management, along with certifications in Mediation, Improvement Advisor, PMP, PRINCE2 Foundation, and ITIL-4. This blend of technical, operational, and people-focused expertise means, I bring both structure and empathy to every engagement.
Based in Auckland, I work closely with clients across New Zealand, helping them navigate challenges and build HR functions that are future-ready, resilient, and people-first.
If you are looking for a collaborative, experienced consultant to support your organisation’s HR, ER, or systems transformation; I would love to hear from you.
What I believe about HR
HR shouldn’t be a mystery.
Too many business owners treat HR like a dark art that only specialists can understand. They’re afraid of getting things wrong, so they avoid dealing with issues until they become crises. Or they make decisions without understanding the implications, and end up in front of the Employment Relations Authority wondering what went wrong.
I believe in building HR literacy. That means explaining things clearly, helping you understand the ‘why’ behind the advice, and equipping you to handle situations with confidence. I’m not trying to create dependency. I want you to learn, not just to hire me again.
Everyone deserves dignity.
Employment relationships involve real people with real lives. Even when someone needs to be performance managed, disciplined, or made redundant, they deserve to be treated with respect. The process matters, not just the outcome.
In te ao Māori, there’s a concept called mana: a person’s dignity, authority, and standing. I try to approach every workplace situation in a way that preserves mana for everyone involved, employers and employees alike. That’s not soft. It’s smart. People who feel respected are less likely to raise grievances, more likely to accept difficult news, and more likely to speak well of you afterwards.
Compliance is the floor, not the ceiling.
Meeting your legal obligations is the minimum. It keeps you out of trouble, but it doesn’t make you a great employer. The businesses that attract and keep the best people go further: they create workplaces where people genuinely want to be.
I help with compliance because you need it. But I also help with the things that make your business somewhere people want to work.
The tough situations are where expertise matters most.
Anyone can write a policy. The real value of an HR consultant shows up when things go wrong: the personal grievance, the misconduct allegation, the restructure that could go sideways, the investigation that needs to be done properly.
I don’t shy away from difficult situations. I’ve handled hundreds of them. That’s where I can make the biggest difference.
How I work
I listen first.
Before I give advice, I need to understand what’s actually happening. Not what should be happening. Not what you think is happening. What’s actually going on. That means asking questions, reviewing documents, and sometimes having conversations you’d rather avoid.
I tell you what you need to hear.
I’m not here to validate decisions you’ve already made. If I think you’re heading for trouble, I’ll say so. If there’s a better approach, I’ll suggest it. You’re paying for my expertise and my honesty, not my agreement.
I explain the ‘why.’
You’ll understand the reasoning behind my advice. That way, you can make informed decisions and learn for next time. I’m building your capability, not just solving today’s problem.
I stay practical.
Theory is nice. Implementation is what matters. Every recommendation I make considers whether it will actually work in your business, with your people, given your constraints. I’d rather give you something workable than something perfect that sits in a drawer.
Why OnPoint exists
To build HR literacy across New Zealand while preserving everyone’s mana and dignity.
That’s our purpose. It drives everything we do.
HR shouldn’t keep business leaders up at night. By building HR literacy, we equip leaders to handle workplace challenges with confidence and make decisions that honour both business needs and human dignity. The result: workplaces that are proactive instead of reactive, empowering instead of fearful.
Our mission: We empower businesses to create fair, functional workplaces where both people and performance succeed.
We turn workplace challenges into opportunities. We tackle the tough situations others shy away from. We bring courage, clarity, and practical solutions when you need them most.
Our vision: To become New Zealand’s leading partner for strategic people management.
We’re building something bigger than a solo consultancy. Through virtual delivery and partnerships, we’re expanding our reach across New Zealand. Our goal is a scalable consulting platform offering everything from HR systems and recruitment to training and mediation, helping businesses build competitive advantage through proactive people strategies.
What we stand for
Integrity and respect
We operate with unwavering integrity and respect for every person involved in a workplace situation. We stay professional and transparent, communicate openly, and prioritise fairness, even in difficult situations.
Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, regardless of their employment status. That means documenting facts, seeking collaborative resolution, and upholding the highest ethical standards in everything we do
Empowerment through knowledge
We build HR literacy that empowers business leaders to navigate workplace challenges with confidence and clarity. Rather than creating dependency, we equip our clients with the knowledge and capability to make informed decisions.
True empowerment comes from understanding. We help leaders grow their capability so they can handle challenges proactively and foster workplaces where people thrive
People-centred excellence
We pursue uncompromising excellence in every solution we deliver, blending rigorous compliance with human-centred outcomes. Our advice is results-driven, grounded in data and legislation, but never loses sight of the people involved.
The best outcomes happen when technical brilliance meets genuine care for people. We believe in workplaces that achieve compliance excellence while honouring dignity and supporting growth.
Working with OnPoint
Flexible engagement, no lock-in.
We offer hourly consulting, project-based agreements, and monthly retainers. No long-term contracts. You engage us when you need us, for as long as you need us.
Often more cost-effective than you’d expect.
For many businesses, engaging a consultant is significantly cheaper than employing an HR manager. You get senior expertise without the salary, leave, and overhead costs. And you only pay for what you use.
A genuine partnership.
We integrate into your workflows, respond quickly, and treat your problems as our problems. We’re not distant advisors who send reports and disappear. We’re partners who care whether things actually work.
Let’s talk
If you’re looking for an HR consultant who will be straight with you, knows their stuff, and genuinely cares about getting things right, I’d love to hear from you.
